Am I The Right Type of Person For This?

To earn a public relations degree, you have to possess a certain kind of personality and outlook. Those who major in this field should be outgoing, creative and energetic, while performing best under intense pressure. Besides this, public relations majors should be able to communicate well, both orally and in writing. You need to be able to express yourself clearly, in a way that won’t ever get misconstrued. Then of course, you must be on top of pop culture, consumer behavior and even current events. You need to know what’s going on in the world around you.

Is the Field Still Growing?

With the way today’s economy is going, it is important to think long term. That is why you must consider how the public relations field will play out in the future. Well thankfully, public relations is a growing field. Of course the degree requirements for public relations programs differ based on what college you’re enrolled in, but overall there are typically communications, ethics, marketing and management courses applied here. If you decide that PR is the route for you, there are many specialized areas you can go into and each of those have their own requirements. For example you can get a degree in PR Journalism or Digital Social Media or even Global Communication Management. Every one of these degrees have different requirements but speaking to your counselor will help you know exactly what is expected of you in this path.
